Pokémon Waves and Pokémon Winds (Waves & Winds) was the key announcement from the February 27 Pokémon Presents: a new pair of mainline entries (100% main series) kicking off a new generation.
It’s planned for 2027 and was announced as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, so no version for the current Nintendo Switch was mentioned.
The new region is presented as a chain of wind-swept islands with a vast ocean as the backbone of the map. The idea is that the environment (wind, currents, the sea) isn’t just “scenery”, but a constant part of travel and exploration.
From what was shown, it looks like a push for bigger scale and more open landscapes, reinforcing that maritime, island-adventure vibe that defines the “Waves / Winds” concept.
During the presentation, the new starter Pokémon were shown:
For now, the reveal focuses on introducing them as your starting point, with more story and system details to come in future updates.
Beyond the digital release, Pokémon Waves and Winds will also launch in a physical format, which is especially important for a mainline new-generation entry. This marks a new era: the main series is making the jump to Switch 2 as its target platform. That makes Waves and Winds one of the most significant upcoming Switch 2 exclusives—and a clear signal of where Pokémon on console is heading next.
