Nintendo surprised everyone with an unexpected shadow drop, simultaneously announcing and releasing Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition digitally. However, those who prefer a physical copy will have to wait until April 16, 2026, when the cartridge hits store shelves.
This version pushes the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware with significant visual and performance improvements over the original Switch release:
For those unfamiliar with the game, Xenoblade Chronicles X originally launched on Wii U in 2015 and came to Nintendo Switch in March 2025 with the Definitive Edition. It includes a post-game story expansion, a raised level cap up to 99, less restrictive character progression, faster and rebalanced combat, and the new Follow Ball feature to track mission objectives more easily.
The digital release has had some issues since launch that the community is hoping Monolith Soft will fix soon. Hopefully the April 16 cartridge ships with those bugs already ironed out from day one. For now, fingers crossed.
The game is priced at €64.99 both digitally and physically. If you already own the Nintendo Switch version, you can upgrade for just €4.99 on the eShop. (Spain region, VAT included.)
