The Game Awards 2025 have been epic for Nintendo! Among awards and third-party announcements, Orbitals was revealed as a confirmed exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2 during the show. Developed by Japanese indie studio Shapefarm and published by Kepler Interactive, this title is shaping up to be a co-op hit.

What is Orbitals?

Orbitals is a two-player co-op adventure set in an intergalactic universe with a retro 90s anime look. You control Maki and Omura, two inseparable but inexperienced explorers who must save their space station from a supernatural cosmic storm. Asymmetrical mechanics include puzzles, ship piloting through asteroid fields, and unique tools to carve a path forward.

  • Visual style: Inspired by classic Japanese anime, with cinematic cutscenes created by Studio Massket, whose staff have worked on popular shows. Full voice-over will be available in Japanese and English.
  • Technology: Developed in Unreal Engine 5 and optimized for Switch 2. It supports local co-op (two Joy-Con in split screen or GameShare) and online play with GameChat and microphone support.
  • Release: Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive in 2026 (exact date TBD).

The Game Awards 2025: Best for Switch

The show awarded titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World, both winners in their categories. Other announcements for Switch 2 included ports such as Resident Evil: Requiem and Pragmata, but there were no brand-new first-party reveals from Nintendo.

Physical edition? Hopefully!

There is no official confirmation of a physical edition yet, but with its striking style and Kepler’s role as publisher (behind games like Sifu and Pacific Drive), there is plenty of hope. If it launches on a full cartridge, it will be a must-buy for collectors!
