Nintendo has released today the overview trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, confirming that the long-awaited return of Samus Aran will arrive on December 4, 2025 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The adventure begins when Sylux, a lethal sniper, attacks the Tau Research Center. Samus responds to the distress signal, but during the confrontation something unexpected happens that leaves her unconscious. Upon waking, she finds herself stranded on Viewros, a mysterious alien planet from which she must escape.
This first-person title will take players to explore the ruins of an extinct civilization, traversing various interconnected regions: dense jungles, factories ravaged by blizzards, frigid laboratories, and volcanic facilities. Scanning the environment will be essential to discover what caused the collapse of this ancient civilization and find an escape route.
Samus will have her signature beam cannon and homing missiles, along with moves like the Morph Ball and quick dodges. During the exploration of Viewros, she will acquire new psychic powers that will expand her capabilities:
These powers will open access to previously inaccessible areas, deepening the exploration of the planet.
In the Sol Valley, an extensive desert connecting the different regions, Samus will be able to use the Vi-O-La, an artifact from the ancient civilization that functions as a vehicle. With it, she will traverse wild lands, evade enemies, and collect minerals to convert them into energy.
The bounty hunter won't be alone on Viewros. Soldiers from the Galactic Federation have also become trapped on the planet, and Samus will collaborate with them in certain sections of the game to try to escape together.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will offer multiple technical enhancements. Players will be able to switch between traditional stick controls and mouse mode simply by changing the way they hold the Joy-Con 2.
The game will include two HDR-compatible display modes:
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is exclusive to the new console. However, those who purchase the standard Nintendo Switch version will be able to buy an upgrade package to take advantage of the optimized features if they play on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo will release three Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo figures. By scanning each one, players will obtain different bonuses and effects within the game.
